In 1999 he was chosen to be the first ever Children's Laureate and in 2005 he was awarded a CBE for services to children's literature. He has won many awards and prizes, including the Whitbread Award and the Kate Greenaway Medal. Quentin Blake has illustrated over three hundred books and he was Roald Dahl's favourite illustrator. His first drawings were published in Punch magazine when he was sixteen and still at school. Quentin Blake is one of Britain's most successful illustrators.
